Colleen Hanabusa Files Papers for Governor’s Race
HONOLULU – Calling on all candidates to run a clean election based on the issues, Colleen Hanabusa today filed her nomination papers for the race for the Governor’s Office.
“It’s humbling to see so many who are joining our call for strong, decisive leadership for the State of Hawai‘i,” said Hanabusa, surrounded by scores of supporters at the Leiopapa A Kamehameha State Office Tower in Honolulu.
“As the election gets into full swing, I urge all candidates to run a clean election based on debate of the issues,” she added. “The divisive rhetoric, combative climate and outright dishonesty on display in the White House and at the highest levels of our federal departments is shameful. What is being threatened is our trust in each other and in an unshakable faith in our ability to let truth and honesty shape our debates and views, and direct our decisions. And it is all happening in large measure because of a lack of strong, moral leadership by this nation’s top leaders.
“Locally, we have already seen examples of candidates or others choosing to ‘go negative’ with personal attacks, because they think this will help them make gains in the polls.
“We cannot be divided by the issues. What we need is good debate, solutions and the drive to make real progress we can see. We need to exercise leadership especially in the areas that most determine the quality of our lives, from truly affordable housing and ensuring that no one needs to go homeless, to providing a living wage for anyone who is willing to work hard, to providing a solid educational foundation for all no matter their career ambitions.”
