HONOLULU — ILWU Local 142 today announced its endorsement of Colleen Hanabusa for governor of the State of Hawai‘i. It was the first formal endorsement of a 2018 gubernatorial candidate by a labor union.

“Colleen has proven she is a leader committed to working families throughout Hawaii,” said Local 142 President Donna Domingo. “We strongly believe she is the clear choice to lead our state forward. The ILWU Local 142 is proud to endorse Colleen for governor.”

“I am honored by this early show of support by ILWU Local 142, and I pledge to work hard to improve the lives of all working families in Hawai‘i,” Hanabusa said. “I am running for governor because I believe the people of Hawai‘i deserve better. It’s time for us to work together to secure a future for the next generation of longshoremen and women, as well as those who will shape Hawai‘i’s agriculture, the visitor industry and general trades of tomorrow.”

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142 represents nearly 18,000 members in Hawai‘i who live and work on all the islands. Members are employed in every major industry, including longshore, general trades, tourism and agriculture. The union’s motto is “An Injury to One Is an Injury to All,” and the union works to improve the lives of all working families in Hawai‘i.
